Russ Cox (rsc)發現每隔一段時間總會有人表示Go 的首次 commit 是在 1972 年 。rsc認為這種說法顯然是非常愚蠢的，並分享了關於 Go 版本控制的更多有趣歷史。例如： Go 真正首次 commit 是第 5 個 commit，此前的都是假 commit。

Subversion

Go 開始使用 Subversion 是作為評估Subversion在Google內部推廣使用的可行性實驗，雖然最後沒有選擇 Subversion，但正是 Go 真正首次 commit提交到了 SVN 伺服器。

Perforce

2008 年 7 月，Go 在 Subversion提交了最後一次 commit 。此後轉向 Perforce，Go 開源前的大部分開發工作都是在 Perforce 上進行。

在轉向到 Perforce 後，引入了DELTA=, OCL= 和 CL= 這些標籤。並且許多其他變更具有相同的OCL=和CL=，因為它們是在單個Perforce命令中建立和提交的，沒有經過稽核。

從 2009 年 11 月一直到 2014 年末，由於 Google Code Project Hosting 即將關閉，Go 不得已尋找新的程式碼託管方案。在研究了幾個選項後，最終選擇使用 Gerrit Code Review， rsc 認為這是 一個非常棒的選擇。

    encoding/xml: remove SyntaxError.Byte

    It is unused. It was introduced in the CL that added InputOffset.
    I suspect it was an editing mistake.
