How to Install EMC PowerPath on Oracle VM 3.4

This guide steps through the following process to install, configure and begin using EMC PowerPath with Oracle VM.

  • Install Oracle VM 3.4 Server
  • Install EMC PowerPath
  • Download latest EMC PowerPath for Linux bundle from Dell/EMC support
  • Copy EMC PowerPath for Linux bundle to each Oracle VM server
  • Uncompress and untar EMC PowerPath bundle to obtain EMC PowerPath for Oracle Linux 6 RPM
  • Install EMC PowerPath for Oracle Linux 6 RPM
  • Install EMC PowerPath license
  • Configure EMC PowerPath
  • Create a new multipath.conf to blocklist all devices
  • Disable DM-Multipath
  • Rebuild initramfs file without DM-Multipath
  • Ensure netfs service starts automatically during boot
  • Add _netdev entry to /etc/fstab
  • Present shared storage to Oracle VM Servers
  • Present pool file system and storage repositories to Oracle VM servers
  • Reboot Oracle VM servers
  • Complete the process using Oracle VM Manager
  • Discover Oracle VM servers
  • Do the following if using iSCSI

    1. Configure Oracle VM network to access iSCSI arrays
    2. Discover iSCSI arrays

  • Do the following if using Fibre Channel

    3. Add admin servers to Unmanaged FibreChannel Array

  • Validate EMC PowerPath'
