Server Install - Does Not Install ODBC Driver [ID 858365.1]

Symptoms

Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 AIX ODBC driver does not gets installed when applying server patch. 

Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4  Patchset 6810189 (patch number is same for all the Operating Systems).  This patchset can be applied to Server or Client.  When applied to Server only the ODBC driver is not installed.

Changes

In Oracle 10g 10.2.0.1 base release there is no ODBC driver available for AIX 64 bit OS as it was not available then.

Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 patchset is the first patch that contains the Oracle ODBC driver for AIX. 

After applying the Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 patchset, there should be installed the main ODBC library file 

$ORACLE_HOME/lib/libsqora.so.10.1 and $ORACLE_HOME/odbc directory.

Cause

Internal Bug 7326341, Abstract: ODBC DRIVER NOT INCLUDED IN 10.2.0.4 IN OPPOSITE TO Bug 6329775.

Solution

Requirement: Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 AIX ODBC driver gets installed during installation of client component only. 

Oracle 10g 10.2.0.4 AIX ODBC driver is not installed when applying only to a server install. 

ODBC is only installed when Oracle Client has been installed additionally as ODBC is a "client" product. 

If the install is an RDBMS/Server Install.  It is recommend to Install the Client Install and re apply 10.2.0.4 patchset as Client.  Patchset readme does not mention that. 

Please note that Oracle only provides the ODBC driver and NOT the OBDC driver manager. Oracle recommends Easysoft ODBC driver manager to work with Oracle's ODBC driver.
