Goal

Is it possible to rebuild / reorganize SYS.CON$ to reduce its size?


Solution

It is not possible to rebuild / reorganize this base table as it is needed at all times while the instance is open

SQL> RENAME CON$ TO CONS$ ;
RENAME CON$ TO CONS$
*
ERROR at line 1:
ORA-00701: object necessary for warmstarting database cannot be altered

A cumbersome alternative would be to create a new database ... then move the users and their
objects to the new database using Transportable Tablespace (for the data) and Export / Import (for
the users and their non storage objects)
