Connect oracle database error in sqlplus: ORA-12560: TNS: protocol adapter error

First make sure the TNS listener and other database services are started in the services control panel, then choose one of the following methods.

  1. C:>set ORACLE_SID = S01 before connecting
  2. Edit registration. Type regedit in command line, to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINESOFTWAREORACLEHOME0, change the variance ORACLE_SID to your database sid (From sap forums)
  • Right click ‘my computer’, propertiesà advancedà environmental variancesàsystem variancesà new name=oracle_sid, value=your database sid (From sap forums)
