Daniel Powter出生於加拿大不列顛哥倫比亞省的小城Vernon。四歲的時候，Daniel Powter就開始在母親的鋼琴伴奏下學習練習小提琴。天資聰慧，進步神速的Daniel Powter不久之後就可以在學校舉辦的活動中演出，但這同時也招來了他一些同學的嫉妒。在有一次提著小提琴經過學校操場的時，Daniel Powter受到了一群人的圍攻，這次事件嚴重打擊了他對音樂的熱情。再次勾起Daniel Powter音樂熱情的是家中父母收藏的The Beatles和Fleetwood Mac樂隊的唱片。他被這些豐富的音樂所打動，開始試著學習彈鋼琴，並一下就為這種“能夠同時奏出多種音色”的樂器所著迷。透過每天如痴如醉的練習，Daniel Powter的鋼琴技藝進步神速。中學畢業後，Daniel Powter選擇去埃德蒙頓的Grant MacEwan學院學習音樂。

搬到溫哥華之後，Daniel Powter結識了一位音樂道路上的真正夥伴：Jeff Dawson。兩人合作創作了多首歌曲並開始自費錄製小樣併到唱片公司自薦。在經歷了漫長的等待之後，Daniel Powter終於於32歲那年得到Warner Bros公司主席Tom Whalley的賞識而成功簽約。2005年，Daniel Powter的首張同名個人專輯《Daniel Powter》面世，主打單曲《Bad Day》在多個國家的流行音樂排行榜上都取得了不錯的成績。2006年3月，《Bad Day》在美國Billboard Hot 100專輯榜中首次奪冠。除了流行的Pop元素外，Daniel還嘗試將Funk、Soul、Rock巧妙地融為一爐，打造新鮮而富有感染力的聲音。
