Question One: ERROR 1130 (00000): Host 'local' is not allowed to connect to this MySQL server


Answer : grant all on *.* to identified by '(yourpassword)';

Question Two: configure: error: C++ compiler cannot create executables

Answer : If you're on Ubuntu or Debian as the OP is, install the build-essential package, either through Synaptic or with apt-get install build-essential.
