APPLIES TO:
Oracle Database - Enterprise Edition - Version 9.2.0.1 and later
Oracle Database - Standard Edition - Version 9.2.0.1 and later
Information in this document applies to any platform.
PURPOSE
This document collects into one place all the individual platform and certification notes for Database on IBM AIX on Power systems (64-bit) that were in the older My Oracle Support certification system. This document can be used as a standalone reference and index to important details about the certification of all active Database releases on the IBM AIX on Power systems (64-bit) platform. In addition, all individual certifications will refer to this note so there is a single consistent source of certification details.
DETAILS
This document contains general information pertaining to all releases of the Oracle Database, and information about individual releases
Platform Information
32-bit/64-bit Information:
-
Starting with Oracle9i, the Server is always in 64-bit mode and ships with both a 32-bit and 64-bit Client Libraries.
-
If the Server product is 64-bit then 64-bit hardware (processors) is required.
-
32-bit Client:
-
A 32-bit client is provided with 64-bit Server releases and can be installed on a system running the 64-bit OS.
-
If installing the 32-bit client on the same system as a 64-bit Database Server, YOU MUST INSTALL THE 32-BIT CLIENT SOFTWARE IN A DIFFERENT ORACLE HOME DIRECTORY that contains only 32-bit Database software. Installation of 32-bit DB client software in a 64-bit ORACLE HOME directory will corrupt the Database Server software installation and require a complete reinstall of the 64-bit ORACLE HOME.
OS Information:
-
Oracle Database products are tested and certified on the AIX 5, AIX 6, and AIX 7 operating systems. Use of these products is supported on all Power based servers on which IBM supports these operating system versions. Download the IBM document from this link for specific information on the platform's supported by these AIX versions. Known Issue: with p7 on 11gr1 see Note 1065579.1.
-
IBM power based systems that support AIX5L includes machines branded as RS6000, pSeries, iSeries, Power Systems, System i5 and System p.
-
The minimum AIX levels for POWER 6 based models are AIX5L 5.2 TL10 and AIX5L 5.3 TL06
-
AIX5L certifications include AIX5L versions 5.2 and 5.3. 5.1 was desupported on 16-JUN-2006.
-
Note: A new installation of Oracle will need to be performed to operate on AIX 5L if upgrading from 4.3.3. Refer to Oracle in 32-bit / 64-bit Kernel Mode on AIX 5L [ID 231901.1] for clarification.
Hardware Information:
-
Systems that are capable of more than 4 CPUs are certified only for the Enterprise Edition
-
Oracle software stack is supported on deployments with the IBM Power Systems LPAR hardware partitioning technology, including the micropartition feature.
-
Oracle software stack is supported on deployments with the IBM Power Systems Virtual IO Server (VIOS), supported RAC environments are listed in the RAC section.
-
Oracle software for AIX-Based systems can be used on Bull Escala AIX, Motorola AIX.
