Symptoms

When running the 'opatch lsinventory' command, the following error is displayed:

" Inventory load failed... OPatch cannot load inventory for the given Oracle Home.
LsInventorySession failed: Unable to create patchObject
OPatch failed with error code 73 "

Cause


The incorrect version of opatch (10.2.0.4.3) was used to query the inventory.

opatch trace file (OPATCH_DEBUG=TRUE) shows opatch 10.2.0.4.3 tried to query meta data (inventory.xml and actions.xml) for  Patch 9119284 in $ORACLE_HOME/inventory/oneoffs/9119284/etc/config

Patch 9119284 = PSU 10.2.0.4.3

According to PSU 10.2.0.4.3 README file


"2.2 OPatch Utility Information

You must use the OPatch 10.2 version 10.2.0.4.7 or later. Oracle recommends that you use the latest released OPatch 10.2, which is available for download from My Oracle Support Patch 6880880 by selecting the 10.2.0.0.0 release."

Solution


1) Install opatch 10.2.0.4.7 or higher using patchid patch 6880880

2) Run "opatch lsinventory" command
