Symptoms
After a failed upgrade attempt to 11g, the database is restored from backup and startup using 10g fails on:ORA-00704: bootstrap process failure
ORA-39700: database must be opened with UPGRADE option
Cause
The backup was taken after the upgrade was attemptedSolution
Restore the database from a backup taken prior to the upgrade
