《關雎》是《詩經》的名篇，"窈窕淑女，君子好逑"更是千古名句。
網上有兩種英譯，我仔細研讀，真是受益多多。
第一種譯文出自英國傳教士理雅各（James Legge，1815-1897）。
關關雎鳩，Guan-guan go the ospreys,
在河之洲。On the islet in the river.
窈窕淑女，The modest, retiring, virtuous, young lady: --
君子好逑。For our prince a good mate she.
第二種譯文出自漢學家阿瑟·韋利（Arthur Waley，1889-1966）。
關關雎鳩，Guan! Guan! Cry the fish hawks
在河之洲。on sandbars in the river:
窈窕淑女，a mild-mannered good girl,
君子好逑。fine match for the gentleman.
前一種譯文是19世紀風格，用詞文雅，語法講究；後一種譯文是20世紀風格，貼近口語，簡潔明瞭。
前者將"淑女"譯成lady，後者譯成good girl，生動地反映了兩個時代的差異。前者用mate（伴侶）形容"女朋友"，後者用了match（交友）。至於"君子"，前者是our prince，後者是gentleman，我懷疑21世紀的譯者會不會直接用boy？
後面的翻譯，"求之不得，寤寐思服。悠悠哉哉，輾轉反側"，也很有意思。
前者的譯文：
求之不得，He sought her and found her not,
寤寐思服。And waking and sleeping he thought about her.
悠悠哉哉，Long he thought; oh! long and anxiously;
輾轉反側。On his side, on his back, he turned, and back again.
後者的譯文：
求之不得，I search but cannot find her,
寤寐思服。awake, asleep, thinking of her,
悠悠哉哉，endlessly, endlessly,
輾轉反側。turning, tossing from side to side.
兩種譯文都令我傾倒！表達得如此傳神，可見古今中外，思慕之苦，人皆有之啊！
